Crosxings Low Table

Concept

Two square section legs are split with an axe from a green log of wild Irish hardwood. The splitting or riving tears apart the wood fibers and reveal the beautiful internal structure of the tree. A kiln dried cylindrical peg pierces the greenwood legs and over time the legs will shrink tightly around the peg. The three legged jack shape forms a stable base for the clear toughened glass top.

Materials

The crosxings low table is all handmade with basic tools such as the froe, carving axe and draw knife. Made from green wild Irish hardwoods that are sourced from the thinnings of local tree surgeons and continuous coverage forestry. The ‘green’ means that the logs are freshly felled and worked in their green state. There is no need for air or kiln drying. The glass is toughened safety glass making it safe to handle. The table is finished with a hardwearing, natural, hand rubbed oil.

The wild Irish hardwood logs are sourced from the Sutton locality and Co. Wicklow. They are thinnings from tree surgery or continuous coverage forestry and would otherwise go to firewood. The logs have come from "wild" trees giving them a much more interesting character of grain, pattern and colours as they developed naturally and twisted in the sun.
